Elective surgery pause

Arthro Health

Elective surgery paused in Melbourne. Most joint replacement and arthroscopic surgeries are on hold. Try to relax like this person outside our rooms!

Mr Andrew Chia orthopaedic hip and knee surgeon

Like most orthopaedic practices in Melbourne, we’ve lost count on the number of times elective surgery has been paused in Victoria during the current pandemic.

As of Friday 15th of October, all elective surgery other than category 1 or urgent category 2A has been paused. This is to free up space in private hospitals while our public hospitals deal with the influx of COVID patients. Generally, joint replacement and many arthroscopic procedures don’t fall into these categories.

For all of our patients who are scheduled for surgery over the coming months, we are providing 1-2 weeks’ notice of cancellations as we have our fingers, toes and everything crossed that surgeries can recommence.

Our practice manager Damien is working closely with St Vincent’s Private, Epworth Richmond, The Bays Hospital and Epworth Freemasons to ensure any surgery that can take place during this time, will take place.

In the meantime, please contact our rooms if you are scheduled for surgery and would like some advice on prehabilitation work to keep you as fit as possible before your surgery. We will work with your allied health team or recommend some close to you that can keep you surgery ready.
