Horse riding after total hip replacement

At ARTHRO Health we have many patients who love horse riding. They all ask Andrew – will I be able to ride my horse after total hip replacement? Many are nervous that post joint replacement they won’t be able to “get back on the horse”.

We recently had a patient undergo total hip replacement with Andrew at 90.5 years old and received this note from his niece.

Total hip replacement and horse riding

Dear Andrew, Damien, &Helen,

I’m delighted to share these photos of Keith taken today.

14 weeks post op at 90.5 years Keith is delighted to be riding again after not being able to ride for the past 9 months. Thank you so much for your wonderful care which has enabled a great quality of life to return.

Kind regards

Tracey

The ARTHRO Health team was so happy to know that Keith was back to doing what he loves. When he first came to our rooms at The Bays Hospital, he was happy to let us know that he lives alone in regional Victoria on a large lot of land and finds great joy in just being with his animals, especially his horses. He decided to see Andrew when he could no longer ride due to pain from osteoarthritis. He was thrilled when Andrew told him that he would be back to riding his horses post anterior total hip replacement.
